Google bought Picnik.com, a site that lets users edit and store photos online.

"Until now, you have to edit the photos using the client software on the computer," said Google's Director of Product Management Brian Ax, as reported by AFP, Tuesday (2/3/2010).

"Today we are pleased to announce that Google has acquired Picnik, one of the sites that allow users to 'photo editing on the cloud' or edit images online," added Axe.

Without mentioning the financial details of the acquisition, Axe says Google will not make too many changes in Picnik, but will be working hard in the integration and the addition of new features.

Picnik allows users to import images from similar services such as Picasa, Flickr and Facebook. Picnik currently has 20 employees and the site received millions of visits each month.

Picnik's spokesman said, under the auspices of Google they would be able to attract more people and make the photos more impressive.

"Google to process petabytes of data every day. With their infrastructure and their team who have worldwide, I think Google's the best home for us," he said.
